Generic Name: Quetiapine Fumarate (kwe-TYE-a-peen)
Drug Class: Antipsychotic, dibenzothiazeprine derivatives
This medicine is used to treat psychotic disorders. Your doctor may use this
medicine to treat other conditions as well.

How it Works
This medicine effects certain chemicals in the brain called "neurotransmitters".
These neurotransmitters are known to affect behavior and mood.
How to Take It
Take this medicine exactly as directed by your healthcare provider. AVOID
EATING grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
Possible Side Effects
- This medicine may cause the following side effects:
- dry mouth
- See a doctor immediately if you experience:
- unexplained fever
- extreme muscle stiffness
- uncontrolled muscle movements (e.g.
- tongue or face)
- vision changes
- irregular or fast heartbeat
- change in alertness
- If you experience other bothersome side effects, contact your health
- Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have had an allergy
to this medicine in the past.
- Do NOT abruptly stop this medicine without talking to your doctor.
- This medicine may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
- Alcoholic beverages can increase the effects of this medicine and should
- Avoid getting overheated and drink plenty of fluids when exposed to
- Be cautious when sitting up too quickly from a lying down position,
especially in the first 3-5 days of treatment or when the doctor increases

- cortisone-like drugs (prednisone; hydrocortisone)
- itraconazole (Sporanox)
- ketoconazole (Nizoral)
- levodopa (Sinemet)
- lorazepam (Ativan)
- medications for high blood pressure
- pergolide (Permax)
- phenytoin (Dilantin)
- pramipexole (Mirapex)
- rifampin (Rifadin)
- selegiline (Eldepryl)
- thioridazine (Mellaril)
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next
dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out
of reach of children. Store it at room temperature, 20-25 degrees (68-77 F)
and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any
medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Notify your doctor if you think you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
while taking this medicine. Do NOT take this medicine if your are breastfeeding.
